Maguey Sour
JACQUES BEZUIDENHOUT, the owner of this delicious Maguey cocktail. Roasting the heart of the plant in an earthen pit is what gives Mezcal its smoky flavor.
Ingredients:
Ice
2 ounces Mezcal
1/2 ounce Bénédictine (brandy-based herbal liqueur)
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
1/2 ounce orgeat (almond-flavored syrup)
1/2 large egg white
Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg and 1 orange twist, for garnish
Instructions:
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the garnishes and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and garnish with the grated nutmeg and orange twist.
